The Attack position on a mountain bike

The attack position on a mountain bike is the body position you need to employ when mountain biking down steep hills and ledges. You’ll also find the mountain biking attack position useful for mountain biking down stairs. Get it right and you’ll have a ton of fun.

But Don’t Under Do It

Always remember, it’s better to over-do the attack position, rather than under do it, especially while you’re learning.  That is, it’s better to be further back than you actually need to be and hit your bum on the tread, rather than not be back far enough and ending up going over the handlebars and onto your head.

And don’t forget to drop your seat!  (learn how to drop your seat on the move here )

Also, front braking and one-finger braking make riding these obstacles so much easier.  These two braking skills give you so much more control over your mountain bike, so if you haven’t already, make the switch today.  Convert to front and one-finger braking.  You’ll be amazed at the difference these two skills make.

Grow with Your Skill

Perfect your approach speed, attack position and bike control on small slopes and ledges, then work your way up to larger and steeper challenges as your skills improve.
